Summary

It is the first Quarter Final for the APFA 2020 Club Championship between Brisbane City and North Auckland Rebels.

The match started with Brisbane City putting the pressure on early. They were rewarded with a corner which Jessie McCarthy took setting up Bryce Castles inside the area to spin it into the open goal. City taking a one nil lead just inside two minutes.

The action continued with end-to-end passing, neither team able to gain the ascendency and apply effective pressure in the area. This held until the seventeen minute mark when Luke Alderton set up Bryce Castles for the goal, doubling the lead for Brisbane City. The score would remain this way with the referee blowing the whistle for the half-time break.

The second half started quietly with the majority of play between the boxes, neither team gaining the upper hand. Brisbane City earned a number of free kicks in the attacking third however weren’t able to penerate the Auckland defence headed by Mike Wheeler.

Cooper Pulini and Sandra Wilcox tried repeatedly to launch attacks on the fast break to get Auckland back in the game. Tom Latcham, a stalwart in goal for City was having nothing of it holding out strongly to secure his second cleansheet of the week.

Brisbane City held on to win through to the Semi Final defeating North Auckland Rebels 2-0.
