|2020 APFA Club Championship (Group Stage)
Sydney FC defeated Brisbane Strikers 2-1 at the QuayCentre in group match #22 of the APFA 2020 Club Championship.
Jack Gillespi opened the scoring in the first minute of the game for the Strikers when a long range shot from Jack Parry rebouned off the post. Gillespi was quick to pounce sending the ball back toward the goal sliding it just inside the post (10 seconds into the video below) . Sydney regained composure quickly and settled in for the match.
It took another eleven minutes of powerchair football before the scoreboard ticked over again. A spin kick from Jordan Crane in the centre of the court pushed the ball forward to Jye Mokluk on the edge of the area. Mokluk sent it across the top of the box into the path of Kiwi International Brennan Massey who calmly sent it into the open goals giving Sydney FC their first goal of the match (11:05 into the video below).
With a little over three minutes to play in the first half, Sydney consistent pressure in the attacking half would finally play dividends. Play maker Jordan Crane took the sideline kick sending the ball at pace through a gap in the defence left vacant by a rapidly moving Brennan Massey. On the far side of the box Jye Mokluk was waiting for an easy push which neither of the Strikers defends could reach in time. Sydney taking the lead for the first time (16:45 into the video below).
It was a lead which the Sydney team would hold on to for the remainder of the match. The Strikers defence was solid not allowing Sydney to increase their score but at the same time they were unable to break down their opponent to equalise. Sydney finishing the stronger with a 2-1 win.
