What a day! Victoria went into the finals already astounded by how far the entire team has progressed and how much we have grown in the last year. With two players debuting at national’s this year, Victoria had already made history by taking a full Victorian team without the assistance from other states.
This week saw Victoria not only bring to the court a solid defense, but saw them improve upon it. Victoria’s most appreciated compliment of the series was from South Australia’s captain post the 3rd place playoff, S. Bongiovanni stating that Victoria’s offence ‘had improved by ten fold’ since the first time they played earlier in the week.
Despite some scorelines greater than others, all finals matches were hard hitting and exciting to watch. The best Powerchair Football games Australia have seen yet with still so much more potential to strive towards.
But forwards from here, with the Australian team yet to be announced ahead of the traditional ‘Ditch Cup’ due to be played against New Zealand’s finest tomorrow.
Congratulations to Queensland, who were able to come back from a 2 goal deficit to bring the game to a draw at full time. Pushing through into over time they then scored an additional 2 goals to bring their lead to 5-3!
