We are thrilled to be welcoming A-League club Western United FC into our powerchair football community.
Western United are building a growing supporter-base in western Melbourne and we will be supporting them as they build a team to compete in the Victorian Powerchair League.
Western United covers a large geographical region from the western metropolitan suburbs of Melbourne, down to Geelong and up to Ballarat.
Luke David, President of Powerchair Sports Victoria, is backing the club and its effort saying “this is an exciting opportunity to expand the sport to an area we have not been able to reach in the past. Western United and its football department have committed to helping discover and empower the next generation of powerchair footballers in Victoria. We look forward to working with Western United to support people with disability to participate in football and connect with the wider community.”
Western United FC will be engaging directly with the community to develop a team and Powerchair Sports Victoria will be assisting with come-and-try sessions throughout the region.
The first come-and-try session will be held on February 28th at Eagle Stadium in Werribee starting at 3:30pm. Those interested in trying out powerchair football can register via the expression of interest form.
In time Western United’s new team will compete in the Victorian Powerchair League against fellow A-League club Melbourne City FC and the highly regarded NPL team from South Melbourne FC. The pinnacle of club powerchair football in Australia is the Club Championship held annually bringing together twelve clubs from Australia and New Zealand.
