Powerchair Premier League 2019 RD 1 Results

Powerchair Premier League Round 1 saw Melbourne City PFC take on South Melbourne PFC in Powerchair Football and two new Powerchair Hockey teams, Melbourne Ducks battle Melbourne Hunters!

⚽️ #PowerchairFootball | The first match of the season was a hard-fought, high intensity battle as Melbourne City and South Melbourne put their pre-season training and new tactics to the test. It was an even start to the game as the ball went from one end to the other as both teams tried to get a hold on the contest. South Melbourne made the most of an open goal with a half way shot from the sideline from Gavin Thorneycroft giving them the lead on his South Melbourne debut. Melbourne City then dominated the play for the remainder of the first half and were rewarded with a Luke David goal in the dying stages, assisted by Josh Rycken. The second half saw Melbourne City control most of the possession and play as they assaulted the goal line and came close to scoring. The defence of South Melbourne had other ideas as Chirs Kessaris and Shaun Mott held strong to keep City out. It ended in a 1-1 draw with both teams taking a lot out of the game and will prepare for the next round on May 26th.

🏒 #PowerchairHockey | An exciting time as two new teams were introduced to Powerchair Hockey. The Melbourne Ducks and the Melbourne Hunters had plenty to prove in the first game of the season. The game started off in a tight contest as both teams had early chances but the Hunters keeper James North-Coombes and Ducks keeper Julia Svaganovic were able to keep the ball out. The deadlock was broken with consecutive goals to Luke David which gave the Ducks the early lead. A Shaun Mott goal gave the Hunters a chance to get back into the game. After a fast first half the Ducks took a 3-1 lead into half time. Any chance of a Hunters comeback was just about shattered in the early stages of the second half as quick goals to the Ducks extended the lead. The scoreboard kept ticking over for the Ducks as they made it 7-1 half way through the second half. The game took a bit of a turn as the Hunters scored 3 consecutive goals including an own goal as they attempted to get back into the game. It was however too big of a mountain to climb as Luke David scored his ninth goal of the game in the final minute as the Ducks registered an impressive 9-4 win. The Hunters will look to take a bit of momentum built from the latter part of the game into Round 2 on May 26th.
