The game kicked off with a narrow miss of a goal by Brisbane City in the first three minutes of play. Brisbane City kept the pressure on the Newcastle Jets to score their first goal in the third minute of the game. The Jets tried to reverse the pressure on the reset but gave away a goal kick to City. A high ball saw Dimitri Liolio-Davis and Jessie McCarthy go head on for the ball with McCarthy narrowly loosing the ball to Liolio-Davis. A strong defense from Bryce Castles and Tom Latcham saw a few minutes of play locked up in the Jets goal. A two-on-one call was made against the jets before Brad Bates set up a leveling score for Chris Hastas. Hard battles saw the game go from one end to the other locking the score for the next 10 minutes of play. A sideline kick in saw the Jets score their second goal of the day from Dimitri Liolio-Davis.
Half time score was locked 2 – 1 to the Newcatle Jets.
A sideline kickin in the first minute of the second half saw Luke Alderton pass to Bryce Castles who pushed it through the goal, levelling the score. Chris Hastas was subbed out for Ryan Seck in the 8th minute of the second half. A yellow card was goven to Jessie McCarthy in the 9th m inute of play for contact on Brad Bates.
With the score drawn at 2 – all at the full-time call, the head referee Amy Holcroft declared extra time.
Chris Hastas was substiuted for Ryan Seck in the second half of extra time.
Strong defense from both teams led to penalty shoot out being called. Two misses from Brisbane City saw Newcastle Jets come out with the win.
