Summary

A local Brisbane derby between Lions and City started the last day of competition in the group stage of the APFA 2020 Club Championship.

Both teams started with some aggressive play and it was Brisbane City who made the first mark on the scoreboard in the fourth minute. A sideline kick found Luke Alderton at the box of the box where his spin kick found the post rebounding across the line.

In the eighth minute it was Brisbane City again who were celebrating. A corner kick found its way to the top of the area where Jessie McCarthy shot truly to double the lead for City in their chase to secure a Quarter Finals berth. Then with just a few minutes to go in the first half, with a sideline kick Bryce Castles made a cross to Jessie McCarthy who again scored to put City up by three.

After the break four minutes of football played out before Brisbane scored again. Luke Alderton setup Bryce Castles for his first of the game. Jessie McCarthy picked up his hat-trick with some classy work inside the area to get on the end of a cross from Luke Alderton.

Lions scored their first goal of the game with 14 minutes to go in the second half. Tristram Peters set up for Mark Warren.

Final score was 5 – 1 to Brisbane City.

Great battling by both teams. This game leaves Brisbane City in 4th place on the ladder.
